The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ayede,  Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, on Saturday, underscored the importance of the new admission benchmark of 18 years into all higher institutions of learning in the country as recently announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Speaking on what Senator Shehu Sanni said on the new policy, the Rector said though there could be exceptional cases to that effect, age is a good requisite for admission in Nigeria.
According to him, a student is expected to be mature and be in a good state of mind before he could be given admission. The rector said the new admission system would enable good education and career plans in the Nigerian university system, thereby creating rooms for equal opportunities.
Speaking on the discrimination between the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor degree certificate holders, the don said efforts were on top gear to pass the bill to remove the dichotomy. He said President Bola Tinubu would hopefully sign the bill soon.
The educational administrator asserted that the student loans in which the federal government has begun its disbursement would help students in various higher institutions in Nigeria.
On the progress of the polytechnic,  Abdul-Hameed disclosed that the institution had been given more courses to train schools in various fields which would take effect in the next academic session. The rector added that the federal polytechnic is poised in pursuing its mission and vision of producing students with entrepreneurial skills.
