The National Association of Nigerian Students [NANS], the Southwest wing, on Sunday, called on all and sundry to raise their voices to fight cholera for a healthier Nigeria, saying it is joining its voice by embarking on an awareness campaign against the scourge in the region.
The Southwest Coordinator of the association, John Alao, disclosed this to journalists in a statement in Ibadan.
The campaign is billed to start on Friday at Toll Gate, Ibadan by 7.00 a.m.
Alao said it was imperative to educate the communities on the risks of cholera and how it could be prevented.
The student leader said it was expedient to promote hand-washing with soap, proper disposal of waste, and the use of clean water sources.
He added that the union would distribute educational materials and flyers, organize awareness campaigns and rallies, engage with local leaders and healthcare professionals and support vaccination efforts and water sanitation projects.
He said: ‘’Today, it’s imperative for me to address a pressing issue that affects us all: cholera. This waterborne disease has claimed countless lives in our country, and it’s time for us to take action.
‘’As students, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference by joining hands together, we can sensitize the general public on the importance of hygiene, clean water, and sanitation.
‘’We must educate our communities on the risks of cholera and how it can be prevented. We must promote hand-washing with soap, proper disposal of waste, and the use of clean water sources.
‘’Let us use our collective voice to demand improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities in our various institutions and communities.
‘’Let us join hands, let us raise our voices, and let us fight against cholera. For a healthier Nigeria, for a brighter future, we can make it happen’’.
