…175 LCU graduands inductedÂ
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr. Tosan Erhabor; the Vice Chancellor, Lead City University [LCU], Ibadan, Prof. Kabiru  Adeyemo and the former Dean, Post-graduate Studies, Edo State University, Uzairue, Edo State, Prof. Matthew Olaniyan, have called on graduands from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science to embrace innovation and continuous learning for them to be a leading light in their career.
They made the call during the third induction and oath-taking ceremonies for Medical Laboratory Science Students of the university by the MLSCN at the Adeline Hall, LCU, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The induction of the third set of qualified medical laboratory scientists of the university was done for one hundred and seventy-five graduands.
Present at the ceremony were LCU Registrar, Dr. Oyebola Ayeni; Provost, College of Medicine of the university, Prof. M.A. Thomas; Deputy Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Science, Prof. Olusola Ladokun; Deputy Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Management and Social Science, Prof. Omolara Cambell; the Bursar,Dr.Kunbi Taiwo-Taiwo and others.
The MLSCN Registrar, Erhabor, was represented by Dr. Akinwale Akinlabi as the special guest of honour.
The Registrar urged the inductees to embrace diligence, innovation and selflessness. He also charged them to contribute their quota towards the transformation of the health sector.
Erhabor said: ‘’In the context of your professional journey, you should be set to commence a new and more demanding phase. I believe you will do well provided you uphold the time-tested virtues of respect for self and superiors, hard work, diligence and selflessness.
‘’You are joining a health profession in high demand albeit at a time the health sector is at the crossroads. Therefore, we are admitting you to contribute your quota towards the transformation of the health sector.
‘’A system that is seeking transformation requires fresh perspectives, vibrancy and courage that only a young and skilled workforce can offer. You are among those professionals the health system is looking up to; so, I encourage you to go out there and make us proud’’.
The registrar admonished the inductees to reflect on the essence of their  calling as a medical laboratory scientist, saying:  ‘’At the heart of it all is your willingness to work according to the ethical standards of the profession, including placing the interest of the patient at the centre of your practice’’.
In his admonition, the VC,  Prof. Adeyemo, urged the inductees never stop learning, but embrace innovation, and  strive for excellence in their practice.
The VC said: ”Your role as Medical Laboratory Scientists places you at the forefront of healthcare delivery, where your expertise will save lives, alleviate suffering, and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge.
”However, with this great privilege comes significant responsibility. The dynamic nature of healthcare demands continuous learning and professional development. Embrace opportunities to stay abreast of advancements in laboratory techniques, equipment, and research findings to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
”With this privilege comes great responsibility. The trust placed in you by patients and healthcare professionals alike is sacred, and it is imperative that you uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in everything you do.
”I urge you to never stop learning, to embrace innovation, and to always strive for excellence in your practice. Remember that the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong journey, and it is through continuous learning and self-improvement that you will truly make a difference in the lives of others”.
The Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, Lead City University, Ibadan, Dr. Adesola Oniye, said the inductee had been equipped with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to excel.
Oniye said: ‘’I commend you for being worthy to be a part of this family. You have demonstrated that you are exceptional individuals with the potential to become remarkable leaders in the future. I can assure that this journey will be filled with opportunities for challenges, learning and growth.
‘’You will expand your worldview through your service to the world around you. You will learn to lead, and you will do great things. Embrace the challenges that lie ahead with confidence, knowing that you are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to excel’’.
The guest lecturer, who is the former Dean, Post-graduate Studies, Edo State University, Uzairue, Edo State, Prof. Matthew Olaniyan, stressed the need for the improvement of capacity building, research and innovation.
In his remarks, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, Prof. Ajibare Ayodeji, urged the graduands to embrace critical thinking and resilience.
The VC presented awards to deserving graduands with Mrs. Modupe Oreofe Alawada topping the list, carting   away numerous awards and huge cash. She graduated with 4.88 points. She is the best graduating student –Medical Microbiology.
Also, the best graduating student – Chemical Pathology is Agbola Victor Paul; best graduating student –Haematology is Adewale Adebukola Easter; best graduating student – Histopathology is Omolayo Blessing Dupe; and others.
