Temitope Farombi: Brain Behind OHEALTH, Telemedicine in Ibadan

In the ever-evolving world, the need to adopt programmatic approaches to addressing issues plaguing humanity is imperative.
Again, the outbreak of COVID-19 has changed ways of doing things globally. Hence, the new normal has become the buzzword. As in other professions, so it is in Medicine. To break the barriers to the accessibility of healthcare and change the narrative, one woman is at the forefront, using a novel approach in healthcare delivery.
The woman is Dr. Temitope Hannah Farombi. And her approach is digital medicine/telemedicine.
A WELL EDUCATED WOMAN AND PROFESSIONAL PAR EXCELLENCE
Dr. Temitope Farombi holds an MBBS from the University of Ibadan. She was trained in internal medicine at the University College Hospital (UCH) and Neurology at UCH, Ibadan , Nigeria. She obtained her Masters at King’s College London in Clinical Neuroscience.
The medical lecturer at the College of Medicine, UI is rounding off her Ph.D in Health and Aging at the University of West London.
Farombi is a Consultant Neurologist, University College Hospital [UCH], Ibadan. She was once a Senior Registrar, Neurology Unit, UCH. She specializes in the critical care neurology of the elderly, movement disorders, Dementia and headaches.
She was a visiting scholar to the Northwestern University Chicago, USA and Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey.
Out of passion, she founded Brain Health Initiative Nigeria and Online Health Company. As the CEO of Online Health Company Limited, Farombi is set to revolutionise healthcare delivery with the use of telemedicine and digitalization of healthcare.
OHEALTH Nigeria was launched in 2020 to leverage the role of non-physician providers in Nigeria , where there is a doctor-patient ratio of 1:6,000, using telemedicine to improve access to the healthcare system.
The organisation is a telemedicine company dedicated to providing quality health care services through a proficient online medical platform that gives patients easy access to qualified and professional doctors for quality healthcare delivery.
Under this platform, she recently launched Electronic Medical Record [EMR] software. The platform provides easy access to healthcare services. Through her clinical and personal experience, Farombi understands the difficulties patients face to access healthcare services and the unpleasant outcome of late presentations and delay in seeking help.
Herself and her team of young and enthusiast officees have built a mobile and web application platform that allows for easy access to healthcare services through mobile phones.
They currently provide services to over 200,000 clients in Nigeria through partnership with health insurance companies and have had over 11,000 subscribers to their platforms.
The committed team continues to partner with healthcare providers and industry stakeholders in Nigeria. Their goal is to be a one-stop shop for all health care services in Nigeria and Africa.
BEYOND MEDICINE
The medical specialist is an international keynote speaker on many issues of chronic neurological diseases in the elderly, conferences, symposia and seminars. She has published many articles in scientific journals and is a member of many institutions and bodies.
Farombi is a member of many learned societies, including Movement Disorder Society and the Nigerian Society of Neurological Sciences.
She enjoys playing golf and is a former Lady Captain of Ibadan Golf Club.
