PROLOGUE TO THE BOOK
A leading columnist in one of the dailies calls him a “Separatist”. He was even generous to have described him as having a “passionate heart” and that his intentions are nothing but “noble”.
There are lots of myths and facts surrounding the emergence of Sunday Adeyemo, the 48-years-old Charismatic son of late Abel Adetunji Adeyemo of Igboho recently on the political landscape of Oyo State. Precisely on security issues.
That the murderous Fulani herdsmen have turned the farms and bushes in the southwest of Nigeria into killing fields is no longer news. The nepotistic administration of General Buhari prefers to look the other way. All security agencies of the federal government understand the body language of Mister President in this gambit. Farmlands have become no-go areas for farmers. Hundreds have been killed, maimed, rapped and driven out of their homes. In Ibarapa area of Oyo State, not less than N100 million naira have been paid as ransom to Fulani Herdsmen-kidnapping and rampaging all over the place. What worsened the situation in the south west was the inexplicable and embarrassing disposition of the Governors in the south west.
They dithered very badly in the face of the murderous and arrogant Fulani herdsmen who were openly and boldly attacking the farmers with A.K 47 rifles.
The reactions and attitudes of the South West Governors differ completely from the more cohesive, outspoken and provocative utterances from the core-north Governors. It took sustained public outcry before the South West Governors could muster courage to even agree to establish the much publicized Amotekun – which till today, is still being undermined by the Federal Government.
It was these atrocities, encouraged by the ineptitude, insensitivity, inability of the governors to separate personal interests from that of the public, that forced Sunday Adeyemo to fill the “Vaccum” or if you like the lacuna.
He put his life on the line; He went to Ibarapa land, specifically in the Igangan axis of that deadly area which in recent times had claimed the lives of illustrious citizens like the late Dr. Fatai Aborode, who was killed in the most horrific and barbaric manner to confront the Fulanis, the fall out is still with us to date and the resultant darts are still coming in the direction of Sunday Adeyemo.
He is being pilloried in the media by the agents of the government for his “brashness”. The truth is that Sunday Adeyemo is not as ignorant as his traducers and the know-it-all Governors would want us to believe.
The heaps of insults on Sunday Adeyemo – Igboho are simply uncharitable. How many of these arm-chair critics throwing insults at Sunday Adeyemo can show true courage, risk their lives and face the Fulani in their barbaric enclave? To know who truly is Sunday Adeyemo-Igboho, one needs to interrogative what fires the patriotism and the love of humanity in this 48-year old Oyo State indigene.
Soft spoken, really shy with a suffocating humility, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho has been thoroughly unraveled in a book-coming out SOON titled “SUNDAY IGBOHO OOSA- THE MAKING OF A YORUBA GENERALISSIMO”
It is a masterpiece from the stable of OFFSHORE EDUCATORS & MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS. The myths and facts surrounding this great son of Igboho are placed in proper perspectives. Facts were explored to show that Sunday Adeyemo, has from birth, exhibited all traits of a warrior. For example, as a toddler, little Sunday crawled to the shrine of Egungun – a strong deity in Yoruba-land during a festivity at Igboho. Barely six months old.
In front of the toddler, Sunday, was the deity Calabash containing the offerings to the Egungun – which included fresh parts of a pig-just slaughtered and soaked in its blood and before anybody could say Jack Robinson, little Sunday had dipped his hands into the calabash. He smeared his body with the blood in it. This toddler did not stop at that. He started licking the blood in his hands. His mother rushed to pick him but was prevented by Sunday’s grandfather who incidentally was the “Giwa Eleegun” of Igboho. The Egungun faithfuls momentarily lost their concentration. It has never happened before. No one heard it in history. They were stunned and speechless. Oracle was instantly consulted and the outcome was predictable. “This is not an ordinary child. The toddler is a special one with a mission”.
Though very close to his father, Sunday was brought up by his grandparents; Late Pa Sanusi Adeyemo – Head of Egungun cult, known as “Giwa-Eleegun” and Asiyawu Adeyemo, his grandmother.
At a very tender age, Sunday was introduced and admitted with open hands into the fold of the “Principalities of the Earth”, not on the account of her grandmother who introduced him into the fold but because the “Principalities” themselves saw “the signs” that Sunday is a special child that is destined to play a major role “in the emancipation of his race.” If you think it’s an empty talk – the book will open your inner eyes – if you have any!
Sunday rose from grass to grace. It was a moving story of how a kid used all his strength to do all sorts of shores-including selling water to feed the family.
Fate diverted his journey to Ibariba land from Igboho to Modakeke in Osun State – where his father was staying.
Like pre-destined, one step followed the other and Sunday became a war hero in Modakeke – until Modakeke “betrayed” him. The details are quite arresting coming from Sunday himself.
On the new-found narratives that his stance in demanding that the killer-Fulanis should leave Yoruba-land has political colouration, Sunday has challenged whoever has any proof to come forward with it.
“I owe no allegiance to any politician or political party. None, Yes I have worked with some of them but the matter on the table now has to do with the larger interest of the Yoruba” he said emphatically.
Sunday’s passion and commitment stand out today and that is why a lot of people are wondering at what point did his demand for the total evacuation of the killer Fulani herdsmen metamorphosed into “Secession”.
Where do you draw the line between “Self-determination” and “Secession”? How does “self-determination” amounts to “Secession”?
Are these narratives not product of mischief?
One thing is clear from the new book – Sunday Adeyemo Igboho is a clear symptom of underlying problems of Nigeria which for the past six years have been so condescendingly provoked by Mohammadu Buhari.
A nation where the worst is holding down the best is not in the interest of its people. That’s why people like Sunday Adeyemo Igboho would continue to be appreciated by the generality of the people who have become victims of the Fulani invasion.
A society where you find dogs killings lion is not where to stay.
Because of limited copies available, organizations, groups, and individuals both in Nigeria and in the diaspora should contact Chief Sunday Adeyemo-Igboho for advance copies of the book while the date and venue for the book launch shall be released to the public in due course.
