Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Osun State University Teaching Hospital hasdeclared a 24-hour strike after the father of one of the patients assaulted and attempted to strangle a doctor on Monday.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around noon when a yet-to-be-identified father, whose his 28-day-old baby was admitted in the hospital, assaulted the doctor on duty.
Confirming the incident, the Vice President of ARD, Dr. Paul Oyegbola, said following the incident, the association had declared 24 hours strike.
He said: “I can confirm to you that a doctor was assaulted by the father of our patient, a 28-day-old baby. We have been making consultations to sort them out. For now we have declared 24 hours strike and we are going to re-converge tomorrow by 1pm.
“We are still deliberating on the issue about where to go from there. The doctor was almost strangled. He was assaulted physically. It took the efforts of people in the hospital and workers to rescue the doctor from the grip of the man.”
Oyegbola added that “the assaulted doctor is stable and fine now, but we need to keep him on observation and physiological evaluation. Physically he looks okay. The management of the hospital are aware of the situation and they have informed the hospital lawyer too.”
They are in the process of taking legal action.”

For clarity and professionalism, balance your reportage and let’s hear from the other side, that is the father of the patient, why he assaulted the doctor.
No one who is desperately in need of help from a doctor will, without a cogent reason, go out of decorum to misbehave towards the expected helper.
