…Urges Nigerians to beware of information on social media about agency
The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Thursday, called on Nigerians to blow whistle and expose those manufacturing fake products, Â saying anyone producing fake products are criminals and will be treated as such.
The food agency said whistle blowers would be protected against any form of harassment or victimisation.
The Director of South West Zone of NAFDAC, Mrs Roseline Ajayi, stated these while featuring on a live programme on  Prince 89.7 FM, Ibadan,  anchored by Princewill Ogu-Adewumi.
The media, social and traditional, have been awash with pictures of fake products  flooding the country, with many criticising the agency leadership for inefficiency.
Ajayi said: ‘’The general public has to support the agency by giving out information on those manufacturing fake products. We depend on  whistle blowers and we will protect them. We solicit for more supports. Give us information we will investigate the information.
If they give us information in confidence, the field officer will not even know the source. We will protect them with police’’.
The NAFDAC Director, who disclosed that efforts are being made to review the laws against counterfeiters, emphasised that faking of products  is criminal.She added that they would be prosecuted.
Ajayi urged Nigerians  to verify information from the agency if they  are in doubt.
‘’Verify information from the agency if they  are in doubt. Come to our office. We have offices  across the country. There is a Consumer Complaint unit’’, she said.
