The Career Fair 2023, organised by the University of Ibadan (UI), has confirmed the leadership of the premier university in the comity of other universities.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIS Konsult Limited, David Tolu Afolayan, stated this while speaking with journalists at the venue of the fair, International Conference Centre, Ibadan.
The premier university and First Bank of Nigeria Limited on Friday held the fair for graduates of the university as part of activities marking the 2023 convocation and 75th Foundation Day ceremonies of the premier university The career fair had the theme: “Global Careers: Navigating Opportunities Beyond Borders.”
Afolayan, who was one of the panelists at the event, said UI has given its graduates a lifetime opportunity by connecting them with employers through the fair.
GIS Konsult CEO said: “About 20 years ago, I had my Master’s degree from the University of Ibadan, and I started my company immediately, and that is a direction that most people are not looking at.
“In his inaugural speech, J.F. Kennedy said you should ask what you would give your country, not what your country would give you. However, that is relevant in a good system, which has put things in place to support their generations.
“My question is – what is the country giving the young people? The question is apt because it is what you sow that you will reap.
“The University of Ibadan is leading in this direction. The premier university is not only equipping the students with academic qualifications but also going a step ahead to connect them with the industry and position them into places.
“When you challenge the young people, you need to connect and network them. The University of Ibadan is creating an avenue to bring various employers into this kind of forum for the students to engage directly with them. It is a lifetime opportunity that they are giving them.
”And it’s one of the things that the University of Ibadan is doing that is making it the leader among other universities in Nigeria. ”
