The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, on Thursday, said the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has been adjudged next performing to the late former governor Bola Ige in the Second Republic in Old Oyo State.
Adelabu stated this at the second edition of Journalist Olawale Ogunbusola Competition and Award held at the National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The commissioner, who was represented by Deputy Director, Secondary Schools in the ministry, Mrs Gladys Uton noted that the administration of Governor Makinde had given an enabling environment for education to flourish in the state.
He cited some of the strides of the governor to include the recruitment of over 5,000 teachers, regular supply of furniture, training and re-training of teachers, creation of education zones and others.
Adelabu, who waa the keynote lecturer on the topic: “Sustaining Educational Standard in Oyo State”, stressed the needs for self-discipline, among students.
In her brief remarks, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke harped on the needs for all students to manage their time effectively in order to achieve a resounding success in the future.
In a goodwill message,an American Professor of Dance and art aficionado, Prince Tunde Odunlade called on the government to create a better environment for partnership with all her sectors.
In his appreciation message, the convener of the quiz competition and award ceremonies, Olawale Ogunbusola expressed his profund gratitude to the sponsors of the programme, especially the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration, lawmakers, Commissioners, Prince89.7FM, Henley and Ascot,D Batik Gallery, Benevolence Publisher, among others.
One of the highlights of the event included school competition where winners emerged in the junior and secondary school categories.
The school winners of the competition are:
Junior Category:
i. Taiwo Winner – 1st- Loyola College,Ibadan
ii. Alao Taiwo- 2nd- Community High School,Isebo
iii. Adele Temiloluwa-3rd- Aseyori Schools,Ibadan.
Senior category;
i. Adepoju Faith-1st- Loyola College,Ibadan
ii. Abdulramon Oyinkansola-2nd- Isabatudeen Girls’ Grammar School and,
iii. Johnson Ayomikun -3rd- Community High School,Isebo.
Other highlights were lectures, book mime, music performance and award presentation to 2022 and 2023 best performing students and dignitaries. Those who bagged awards are the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke as Most Enterprising Youth Commissioner; the founder of Prince FM, Prince Babatunde Balogun as 2023 Best Radio Founder and a host of others.
