The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists [NAWOJ], on Friday, expressed its condolences and sympathy to the people of Borno State, particularly the victims of the recent devastating flooding.Â
Torrential floods had wreaked havoc in Borno State a couple of days ago.
The chairperson of the chapter, Omolola Alamu, and its Secretary, Eniola Adeaga, in a statement in Ibadan,NAWOJ lamented that the images and reports of the disaster were heart-wrenching.
‘’We express our  deepest condolences and sympathy to the people of Borno State, particularly the victims of the recent devastating flooding. The women-journalists said they are in solidarity with the people of Borno State during the challenging time’’, the NAWOJ chiefs said.
They said: ‘’The images and reports of the disaster are heart-wrenching, and our hearts go out to those affected.
‘’As women-journalists, we understand the importance of amplifying the voices of marginalised communities. We stand in solidarity with the people of Borno State during this challenging time’’.
While lauding the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its efforts, the journalists urged the government to continue providing necessary resources and assistance to those affected.
They said: ‘’We commend the efforts of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other responders working tirelessly to provide aid and support.
‘’We urge the government to continue providing necessary resources and assistance to those affected.
‘’Please accept our sincerest condolences. We are with you in spirit and will continue to highlight the plight of the affected communities through our reporting’’.
