Tragedy occurred, on Tuesday , in Ibadan as two churches and a furniture shop, Ayo’s Furniture and Interior Decoration, were burnt.
The fire mostly affected plastic chairs and PVC materials used for ceiling decorations, which were completely burnt.
The owner of the shop, Ibrahim Bolumade , said he lost over N100 million to the inferno.
The 42-year-old man narrated his ordeal: ‘’I was at around 5.00 a.m. on Tuesday when they called me that my shop was burning. By the time I got to the shop it was still burning. It was beyond what we could control. We quickly went to the Fire Service at the Scout Camp, Ibadan South East local government but we were told that the vehicle was faulty. They quickly called the state headquarters at the secretariat. They got to the scene of the incident by 6.00 a.m. However, the fire had done the damage as I could not get even a pin.
‘’I lost many generators, 11 machines, sewing machines, raw materials, finished goods and work to be delivered to customers in Ogun State on Wednesday. The finished jobs to be delivered are in millions. There are some items consumed by the fire that I am not in the right state of mind to estimate and quantify. I lost over N100 million.
‘’The neighbours – the shoe maker, the tailor  and others –  tried to put out the fire; they brought out water and disconnected wires but all to no avail.
‘’I don’t know where to start from. This is my means of survival and feeding my family. I have two wives and children. The government should come to my aid”.
One of the neighbours, who identified herself as ‘Iya’ Bola, lamented that the tardiness of fire fighters made the situation escalate beyond control.
Another neighbour, Maurice George corroborated the narratives. He added that the New Covenant Church was also affected. According to him, many chairs, POP and ceiling of the church were burnt. George, who said he was coming from vigil, narrated that he also lost his solar panel to the inferno.
