A Professor of Statistics at the University of Ibadan, Olusanya Olubusoye, had said the recent broadcast of President Bola Tinubu was a comprehensive response to the nation’s current challenges, focusing on economic reforms, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.
It would be recalled that Tinubu addressed Nigerians in broadcast over the ongoing hunger protests.
Many have faulted the broadcast, saying it did not speak to the demands of the protesters.
However, after carrying out a statistical analysis both qualitatively and quantitatively, the statistics professor said the speech spoke to the socio-economic reforms of the country.
The outcome of the analysis was made available to The Guardian in Ibadan by the professor.
The scholar said: ‘’President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation, focusing on the ongoing nationwide protests and outlining the government’s response and future plans. The speech was analysed using various text mining and sentiment analysis techniques, providing insights into the key themes and sentiments expressed.
‘’The analysis revealed five primary themes in the President’s address: National Economy and Development, energy and Economic Initiatives, Future Economic Initiatives and Hope, National Economic Policies and Foreign Relations and Government Initiatives and National Production.
‘’These themes were identified through topic modelling, highlighting the significant focus on
economic development, infrastructure projects, and efforts to stabilise and grow the national economy.
‘’Sentiment analysis of the speech indicated a predominantly positive tone. The sentiments that were most frequent were positive and trusting, reflecting the President’s attempt to reassure and instil confidence in the Nigerian populace.
