Olori Olayinka Balogun, the Director of the Unicorn Respite and Rehabilitation Centre, on Wednesday held the maiden edition of the Liberating the Needy 2024 programme in memory of Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun,Alli-Okunmade II, Olubadan of Ibadan, who in his lifetime believed in the indispensable role of women in the society.
The event which was held at the Community School adjacent to the late Oba’s palace, witnessed the distribution of items like sewing machines, carpenters’ drilling tools, cash gifts to small scale traders, food packages to widows and the needy from more than 20 non-governmental organisations in Oyo and Osun states.
The immediate past President of the Association of Women Organizations on Nigeria (AWON) and some other members were present. In her speech, Olori Olayinka Balogun emphasised the need to be each other brothers’ keeper, especially at a time like this.
She called on other NGOs to network in their efforts at giving succour to the needy and the vulnerable in the society.
Dr. Kofo Soyinka and Dr. Olusade Taiwo of CEDAR NGO delivered speeches at the occasion. Olori Funmilayo Balogun was also present to support her senior colleague.
