The outgoing Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, on Thursday, said his tenure recorded unprecedented academic excellence, infrastructural development and improved workers’ welfare.
Adebiyi disclosed this in a press conference at the Council Chamber of the institution, Ibadan.
The Rector, whose five-year tenure ends on March 25, said he came in with the determination to pursue aggressive institutional and infrastructural development
The professor appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his quick response and intervention on the institution’s needs said his greatest wish is to see the Polytechnic of Ibadan ranked number one in Nigeria in no distance time.
He said: “We came on board, we had fivev Faculties but now we have six with 42 departments as against 32 that we had before. We have also introduced 11 new courses with full accreditation and more are still coming.
“On Infrastructural development, we also enjoyed the support of Governor Seyi Makinde, TETfund, CIBN groups, old students, individuals and philanthropists. We have a lot of new projects, including a 72- office complex for senior lecturers.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has been supportive in ensuring the progress of the institution with regular financial support for accreditation, infrastructures and other activities that enhanced development of the institution.
“Adebiyi equally said his tenure enjoy robust relationships with stakeholders security agencies staff and management of the institution in ensure compliance with the reforms initiated to enhance discipline on the campus.
“You will recall anytime students are approaching end of sessions or election, it used to be chaotic with casualties but with the introduction of electronic votings, students who have completed their registration can vote from anywhere. That put an end to any form of violence during the end of sessions. We engage the services of security agencies, including Amotekun and our internal security organs”.
On the demands of ASUP regarding the appointment of a Senior Lecturer as Rector of the institution, Professor Adebiyi said he is in full support because it is the dictate of the NBTE and the council has approve it so there is no cause for alarm.
