A former Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Idowu Olayinka, will on February 28, 2024, deliver the Distinguished Personality Lecture of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology of the premier university.
The public lecture, which will commence by 10.00 a.m. at the Seminar Room of the department, has the theme: “Tradition of Teaching and Research in UI”.
The lecture will be both physical and virtual.

Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka is a distinguished leader in academia and Applied Geophysics. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Ibadan and later pursued advanced degrees in Geophysics from the University of London and Applied Geophysics from the University of Birmingham. Joining the University of Ibadan in 1988, he swiftly ascended the academic ladder, culminating in his elevation to the grade of full Professor in 1998 and appointment as the 12th Vice Chancellor of his highly regarded alma mater in 2015. Beyond academia, he has published extensively, mentored numerous students, and held editorial positions in prestigious journals.
Recognised with multiple fellowships and memberships, including the Nigerian Academy of Science and the Geological Society of London, his impact resonates across continents and disciplines.
