The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter, on Tuesday, called on President Bola Tinubu to stop being the chief mourner but take drastic and strategic steps as well as enforce marching orders given to security chiefs in order to curb unabated killings in the country.
The state CAN Chairman,  Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju made the call in an interview with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The CAN chairman, who is a retired military man, said the president must sit tight and secure the country urgently.
He lamented that commiserating with people; discussing 2027 politics and sharing money when people are being killed are not what the country needs now.
He said: “We have been in it for some years now, but there has been no change. So, to get a better result, the president must do things differently. The president needs to step up his tactics and do something more drastically about the incessant killings. Commiserating with the people and giving condolences do not solve the problem.
“He should be on his toes. He should give the service chiefs and those in charge of security, from security advisers to service chiefs, an ultimatum and a timeline to perform. He should give them the timeline within when this carnage should end and bring all the culprits, perpetuating this heinous act to book.
“The president should show some seriousness. Even if he can only record marked achievements on security in the next one year, people will be happy. He should return Nigeria to where we were some years back as far as security is concerned.  Those years where we could move in the night and go anywhere we wanted. Just commiserating with people, discussing 2027 politics and sharing money when people are being killed are not what we need now”.
