The immediate past President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Supo Ayokunle has cautioned against demoralisation of the military following the air strike that happened in Kaduna State, killing over 100 people, warning that such will be dangerous for the country.
Ayokunle, who made the call while speaking with The Guardian in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said if fear should grip the military over demoralisation, the officers fail to do their work because of possibility of committing errors, then the country would all be in danger.
Ayokunle said: “Firing by the military was a tragedy for the nation; very regrettable and very much unfortunate. We sympathise with family members of those bereaved and pray that this will never happen again.
“But at the same time, we should encourage the military because we don’t have alternatives to them in curbing the wave of insecurity that is in the nation.
“We are condemning the act is because it was very costly and because of the lives involved. We should also not demoralise them because if fear should grip them and they fail to do their work because of possibility of committing errors, then we will all be in danger”.
The religious leader also called for a thorough investigation of the incident.
He said: “Thorough investigation should be done about what happened”.
Ayokunle called for more professionalism and training for officers in the country
“Let’s encourage the military on more professionalism, more training, proven intelligence gathering that will total remove this type of incident”, he added.
