…UMeRA urges youths to participate in nation building
The Chairman, House Committee chairman on Youths, House of Representatives Abuja, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, has, urged Nigerian youths to keep pressing for local government autonomy, saying without LG autonomy, there can never be development in the country.
Alao-Akala, a son of former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, made the call during the second edition of the UMeRA Boost conference which held at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The programme, which had the theme:”Africa Made for More”, was organised by UMeRA Business School, Ibadan, for the youths and youths at heart.
He charged the youths to get involved in politics, community development and nation building.
The federal lawmaker said: “Without autonomy, it will be difficult to achieve development. You must stand on autonomy in whatever platform you are. For Nigeria to grow we need that autonomy
“For Nigeria to grow with need local government autonomy. You will see people of industry that will want to become local government chairmen. People like Dangote, Jim Ovia and Tony Elumelu. They know the impact they can make for develop. Chairmen are like mayors. You see billionaires running for it that wants to sincerely make a difference. There is no opportunity for them in Nigeria to make a difference. You must get involved in politics.
“Autonomy is going to be the basis and bedrock of our infrastructural development in Nigeria. Without autonomy of local government, I don’t think we can move beyond a certain point. Politics is local , if the local government is not functioning, how will be politics local? I believe in driving infrastructural development in this country, autonomy must be considered.
”The youths must get involved generally in whatever that is nation-building, community development, politics, resident association meetings and others. We must build the nation together. We do not have any other nation.
The Founder of UMeRA, Mrs. Olamide Alao-Akala, urged the youths to be intentional about making it in life, saying success is not by accident or chance but choices.
The founder, who is a PhD student, said: “You must be self-aware to live an intentional life and achieve your purpose. You cannot make it with an accidental lifestyle”.
Chief Operating Officer of UMeRA Farms, Yemisi Adepoju urged the youths not to be stopped by any circumstance.
The Chief Executive Officer of Adler Technology, Eunice Afolabi, said success is living a good life and be happy.
